Mechanical Interplanting

A new service for Canadian vineyards starting in 2026

Our vineyard services are designed to support growers who purchase our Certified Grapevines imported from France.

The challenge of vine replacement in trellised vineyards

This new service is ideal for vineyards facing labour shortages or aiming to maintain their planting density without engaging in heavy manual operations.

A technology designed to improve vine replacement success

Vitis-import offers a mechanical vine replanting service in Canada using an auger mounted on a mini-excavator. This technology, newly adopted in Europe, allows you to efficiently replace dead vines in an already trellised vineyard, without removing wires or performing manual work on the trellis system.

Saves time: up to 500–800 vines replanted per day

Technical advantages: The machine completes the entire operation in a single pass

  • Drills a precise hole at the targeted location

  • Automatically inserts the grapevine plant using a hollow tube

  • Installs a stake if required

  • Waters simultaneously if needed

  • Closes the soil with integrated blades

Mechanical interplanting, already widely used by vineyards in France, is now accessible through Vitis-import.

Winter damage is a recurring challenge for Canadian vineyards, from Quebec to British Columbia. Mechanical interplanting provides an efficient way to replace dead or weakened vines, most often caused by extreme cold temperatures but also by other types of damage, without disrupting the trellis structure. The machine adapts to all soil types, even stony soils, and allows deep planting (10–20 cm), giving young vines the best chance of survival.

With a capacity of 500 to 800 replants per day, vineyard managers can secure their production while minimizing downtime.

Considering replanting an entire block?

Vitis-import offers a complete GPS planting service, including mechanized installation of grapevines and end posts, ensuring precision and uniformity across the entire block.
